I especially wanted "trees" of the Scottish succession. I have read several good Scottish histories, but the successiions are complicated and confusing. This book includes several charts that are "just right."

The Kings Queens of Britain Oxford Quick Reference John Cannon Anne Hargreaves 9780198609568 Books Reviews

A short, easy to read, reference to the kings an queens of Britain, and the other people who were major characters during their reigns.
It's a very good Reference book and split's the book into individual Kingdom's and House's (with little bit's of information on them). It also split's into the individual King's, Queen's, selected husband's and wife's of these monarch's and selected prince's, which makes it easy to pick out a part you wnat to look at. There's also little bit's about palace's and castle's. As well as family tree's and List's of the various monarch's and consorts of the kingdom's. It's a brilliant book and a must have reference book for a most of british kingdom's and brief information on The celts, roman occupation and the dark ages.
There are any number of books on the market with similar titles and intent -- to provide a chronological compilation of brief biographical sketches of all the monarchs of England and Scotland, and perhaps Wales -- but this is one of the more useful, not to mention most complete, of that breed. Cannon is definitely an authority on the various royal families of Britain and he brings together here nearly 600 entries on anyone who ruled any part of Great Britain at any time. You will find not only the Plantagenets and the Stewarts, and so on, but the House of Dunkeld, the princes of Gwynedd and Powys, the chieftains of York in the viking period, the kings of Bernicia and East Sussex, and every other geographical subdivision that ever existed independently for even a generation or two. For the centuries before the Conquest, these are mostly very short, but then there is often very little known beyond the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle or various sagas. For the successors of William I, the essays are still rather succinct but give most of the key information about each monarch's reign. Moreover, Cannon includes sketches on important spouses, siblings, and rivals for power, such as Marie de Coucy, Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Tudor, Perkin Warbeck, Oliver Cromwell, Queen Alexandra, and even Princess Diana. This not-large volume is part of the publisher's "Paperback Reference" series and as such it succeeds admirably.
I especially wanted "trees" of the Scottish succession. I have read several good Scottish histories, but the successiions are complicated and confusing. This book includes several charts that are "just right."
